More and more people keep asking how templates are being made, so I decided to make a how-to guide. I’ll try to make this as clear as possible, but if you have troubles understanding something, you can ask below.

So this is the kind of template I’m talking about, this is also the one I’m going to use in my example.

This user wanted Abraham
to win the Glee Project!

Making templates is easy when you know how to do it and you can make them on every wiki that you contribute too (keep in mind that you have to make the template on the wiki that you want to use it on. So If you make a template here, you can’t use it on the Glee wiki. You have to make it there too).

Very important too: please do not make templates of everything! We don’t want a avalanche of templates on the wiki. If you make one, put it on your profile or on your own wiki, but please not in the comments or template log.

Step 1: Choose a name

If you know what you want your template to be about, you have to decide a name for it. On some wiki’s you have to be original, since sometimes the name you want to use is already occupied.

When you know the name of your template, type it in the url like this: (replace THENAME with the one you want, of course)

Now you have an empty template, so let's go on.

Step 2: Copy an excisting one

You can make a totally new template, but the easiest way to make one, is just to copy an already excisting one.

Like I said before, we are going to use the Abraham one. So click on edit and you'll see this code:

<div style="float: left; border:solid #FF 14 93 1px; margin: 1px;">
{| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; background: #FF 14 93;"
| style="width: 45px; height: 38px; background: #FF 14 93; text-align: center; font-size: 14pt; color: FF 14 93;" |<div style="float: left; border:solid #000000 1px; Gold: 1px;">
{| cellspacing="0" style="width: 235px; background:#900;"
| style="width: 45px; height: 50px; background:#900; text-align: center; font-size: 14pt; color:Gold;" | '''[[File:Abraham-wiki.jpg|80px|link=]]'''
| style="font-size: 8pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em; color: White;" |<center><b>This user wanted [ <span style="color:Yellow"> ''' Abraham '''</span>]<br/> to win the Glee Project! </b></center>

If you understand the code, you're very lucky. If not, I'll describe the basics what you need to know here with colors.
Note: The code is not completely correct, but who cares, you can make templates, right?

Step 3: Change the code to what you want

There's the code again:

As you see I've added some colors, these are the most important changes you have to/can make. I'll explain them here:
The Border Color: this is the color of the border. In our example the color is 000000, which means it's black. The 6 numbers are a hex code, and every color you can think of has a hex code. You can use this page to search for the color you want (choose the hex code, not Decimal code)

The Background Color: the color of the background. In the example the color is 900, which means it's darkred. I know it has 3 numbers, but it's also a hex code like I explained with the border color (the actual hex code is 990000, not 900), so you can use a hex code with 6 numbers for this one too.

The Picture: The picture you want to use, choose a clear one, because it will be minimized to around the 80px. (you can change the px too as you can see in the picture, but I recommend you to keep it around 80)

The Text: I don't think I have to explain this one. Just keep in mind that you don't use too much text, otherwise it will mess up the template.

Now you know what it means, you can change it to whatever you like. Go ahead and see what your template will become.
Note: It's important that you don't remove other parts of the code when you don't know where it stands for. This will lead to defect templates and will mess up the page you put them on.

Double note: I see that I forgot something important, you can see that the code around the text contains 'white' and 'yellow'. White is the color of the text, yellow is the color of the name (Abraham in this case). Change it to whatever color you want

Triple note: This code also contains an url. You can remove it or change it to the url you want to use.

Step 4:Save and use

When you've changed your template to your likes, you can save it. If everything is the way it should be and I explained it correct, you just made a template, so congrats to you!

To use the template you made you have to use brackets. This means it will look like this: {{Abraham}} . To use the one you made, you have to use the name you choose, so again: {{THENAME}}

I hope this guide is a bit helpful, if you need help with anything else, leave a message on my Message Wall or leave a comment below.

Oh and leave an example of your work below!
