The Final 14 is the exclusive casting special of the second season of The Glee Project, a spin-off show of Glee where fourteen hopeful contenders compete to win a guest-starring role on the US show of Glee. It aired on June 2, 2012.

Summary[]

After a successful first season of The Glee Project, which led to great performances on Glee from the 7 episode arc winners, Damian and Samuel, and the 2 episode winners, Lindsay and Alex, the Glee team with Ryan Murphy decided to make a second season, again looking for a contender who will play a guest starring role on Glee. Ryan Murphy states that they’re looking for one winner out of 12 contenders, unlike first season, which had four winners. On this season they’re looking for young contenders to become freshmen and possibly a new Finn.

In 2011 The Glee Project held open auditions in Chicago, Nashville and New York. To represent The Glee Project and to be an inspiration to the auditioners, Samuel, Damian and Alex were brought in to be guest mentor/judge at the open auditions.

Robert Ulrich mentions that not everybody is talented and some days there are a lot of good contenders and sometimes not. He mentions that luckily sometimes there are contenders that are spectacular. After this Dani is seen. Ulrich also mentions that there is a lot of talent, but sometimes there are real superstars, after which Ali and Aylin are seen. Maxfield is a definite yes, because they don’t have country on the show yet. Mario is described as amazing. Besides them, Ulrich also likes Abraham Lim, and Nellie might be his favorite person.

Ulrich and his team narrow the auditions down to the top 80 performers, and they’re brought to L.A. for the callbacks. Nikki Anders and Zach Woodlee are here to help the contenders and to decide who will be the top 30.

The girls are seen at the choreography with Zach. Ali’s wheelchair skills are praised. Zach says that after seeing Ali, Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams on Glee) will have to work a little bit harder. At the same time, the boys are singing with Nikki, and Charlie is praised for his voice.

Zach says that the biggest challenge is working with the blind contenders, Mario and Mac, (Mac doesn’t make it to the top 14) because he has never done that before. He also says that the blind contenders are really brave and trusting.

Girls are shown working on vocals with Nikki. Lily Mae sings ‘Anything Goes’. She says the experience [being on The Glee Project] is going to change her life for good and that she has a better voice than the other girls and that’s going to give her the edge. Nikki says her tone is pure and beautiful and that she knows what she’s doing. Taryn performs ‘Yoü and I’, she says this is her first audition and she’s doing it for her mother. Another contender is seen crying because of the opportunity to be in the top 80.

The boys do choreography with Zach, and some contenders show their moves.

First round of callback auditions with Robert, Nikki, Zach, and Brad on piano. A few contenders are seen performing. Michael is described by Nikki as charming and sweet, and she just want to take him home, like a puppy. Brege von Bleicken, sister of Marissa, also makes it to the top 80. She mentions it’s not easy to be Marissa’s sister, because she wants to be her own person and not be in her shadow. The judges say she’s fun and completely different from Marissa. Maxfield sings an original song. Nellie sings ‘Yoü and I’, she talks about how her teenage sister passed away when she was nine and how she sees her sister as an inspiration to sing.

The judges decide who goes to the Top 30 to perform for Ryan. Robert Ulrich Announces the Callback list and the 30 contenders are chosen.

In the final auditions, 15 boys and 15 girls get to perform for Ryan Murphy. Charlie sings 4 sentences of ‘All by myself’ when Ryan tells him to stop, he says he’s in and really talented, and he loves everything about him. Ryan says he roots for Shanna, because people can relate to her story about her mother.

The judges decide who is going to be top 12. Ryan chooses 14 instead of twelve. Robert calls the top 14 contenders via Skype to surprise them with the good news that they’re on season two of The Glee Project.
