Tenacity is the sixth episode of season one of The Glee Project, a spin-off of Glee, in which young hopefuls compete for a seven episode guest starring role on the show.

Guest Mentor: Max Adler
Homework Assignment Winner: Marissa
Eliminated: Marissa

Summary[]

The theme of the week is tenacity. The contenders aren't quite sure what it means, but they still give their best to practice, anxious to see who will be the guest judge. It turns out to be Max Adler who plays Dave Karofsky on Glee. In the middle of the contenders' performance of La Roux's Bulletproof, Max asks them to stop and do it again, doing something that had never been done before. Max tells Damian that he is awesome, but he shouldn't be looking (or as Max said, checking out) at other performers while they perform, as it's unprofessional. Max also gives positive feedback to Lindsay, Samuel and Marissa, but in the end Marissa is the one to win the HWA, getting her a 1x1 session with Max and a featured moment in the week's music video, which is their very first mash-up, of Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen and Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice. It's revealed that the contenders will get slushied during the music video, which they are all very excited about.

The contenders learn their choreography for the music video, which they all find very elaborate. During the vocal practice, Samuel and Marissa get negative feedback, while Hannah is so nervous that she can't even get the lyrics right. On the day of the shooting, music video director Erik tells them that being slushied is harder than they can imagine and tells them to stay in their character, same thing Max told previously. The contenders are all extremely nervous, and it is revealed that Cameron and Damian got pretty close. It's also revealed that Max slushied Marissa during their 1x1 session and that she did not like it. Next to get slushied is Samuel. Robert, the casting director and Zack, the choreographer, are very impressed with his performance. Robert and Zach have great expectations in Damian and Lindsay, and are happy when they performer extremely well. Hannah also gives a great performance. However, Robert and Zach aren't that satisfied with Alex, who didn't give his best, or Cameron, who fell out of his character completely once he got slushied. The music video is finally over.

During the reveal of the bottom 3, Robert says this is the first time their decision wasn't unanimous. He then says that Samuel, Damian and Lindsay are called back for next week. Zach tells Alex that he is the best dancer out of the boys, but that the others try harder, so he will be doing a last chance performance. Both Zach and Robert say that Marissa wasn't as electric and dynamic as usual, and that her performance in the vocal studio was lukewarm, thus she will also be doing a last chance performance. Robert and Zach tell Cameron and Marissa that they are the two people they struggled with the most. Zach tells Cameron that they have a tight shooting program and that he is the only contender who stopped and asked for a cut. Robert tells Hannah that she struggled in the studio and with the choreography, and had a really bad attitude. Despite that, she is called back because she was very ferocious. The bottom 3 are then Alex, Marissa and Cameron. They're given to sing their audition songs. Alex says he's decided to do his song in drag.

Alex is the first up and he sings And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going from the musical Dreamgirls. Ryan, Robert and Zach are very impressed with his performance, saying that this is the first time they felt like he truly wanted this, which is whats tenacity's all about. Next is Marissa, singing Jill Scott's Hate on Me. At the end, she changes the lyrics from 'Hate on me, hater' to 'Hate on me, Ryan'. Ryan tells her she's very talented, but that she has to be a bit more in control and a little less all over the place. Next is Cameron, singing his original song Love Can Wait. Ryan says he loves him as a singer, but that he's a bit worried about his acting. Back in their dormitories, the contenders are talking about who they think will go home. They all think that Marissa is safe and that it's either Cameron or Alex. Much to their surprise, it was Marissa who wasn't called back. She sings Keep Holding On with the rest of the contenders singing back-up.
