Vulnerability is the third episode in season one of The Glee Project, a spin-off of Glee, in which young hopefuls compete for a seven episode guest starring role on the show.

Guest Mentor: Dot Marie Jones
Homework Assignment Winner: Matheus
Eliminated: Emily

Summary[]

For the homework assignment, the contestants are tasked with showing off their vulnerability in their performance of Please Don't Leave Me by P!nk which they sing in front of the guest judge Dot Marie Jones (Coach Beiste). She chooses Matheus as the winner for being subtly vulnerable instead of being over top like the rest of the contestants. During her critiques, she tells Lindsay that her emotions came across as forced and Lindsay responds that her emotions were genuine. Robert reminds her that it's not her intentions are, but what the judges see, that matters.

Lindsay irritates the other contestants by talking too much and not giving others a chance to speak until Erik arrives to tell the group that the song of the week is Mad World by Tears For Fears. For the video shoot, they each pick a word or phrase that describes what makes them vulnerable and put them on sandwich boards, which they will then wear around Universal City Walk. The group then discusses aloud what their "vulnerability" word or phrase will be.

During filming, Cameron and Zach note that he is at a disadvantage because he is pretty well-adjusted and doesn't show big emotions compared to other other contestants. Emily cracks jokes in between takes to cover up her tears, and Zack notes she is losing focus. Marissa becomes overwhelmed by Alex's vulnerability on camera and she changes her sign from "flawed" to "anorexic."

The bottom three are Cameron, Emily, and Damian. Cameron is assigned Your Song by Elton John. He comes out in a suit for his performance but Ryan Murphy says his outfit isn't "him" and neither is his performance, so he tells Cameron to come back out with his normal clothes on and repeat the performance. Ryan Murphy likes the second rendition much better but says he may not be enough of an underdog for the show. Emily sings Grenade by Bruno Mars. Ryan Murphy says he had always wanted to use that song on Glee but never knew how to use it until her performance. However, he critiques her vocals towards the end of the song. Damian sings Are You Lonesome Tonight? by Elvis. Damian tells the judges afterward that when he listened to the song, he cried for twenty minutes because he had been in a situation like the one in the song before in which he was faced with a decision to choose between the love of his life and his career. The judges compliment his performance. In the end, Emily is eliminated and she sings Keep Holding On.
